Did You Know? 10 Fascinating Facts About the Day of Judgment

0

The Day of Judgment, also known as the Last Day, Qiyamah, or the Day of

Resurrection, is a central belief in Islam. It is the day when all of humanity will be

resurrected and held accountable for their deeds, receiving eternal reward or

punishment based on their faith and actions in this life.

1. The Day of Judgment Will Last 50,000 Years

One of the most astonishing facts about the Day of Judgment is its duration. While

time in this world is limited, the Day of Resurrection will feel excruciatingly long

 for some people.

Allah says in the Quran:

"The angels and the Spirit [Jibril] will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of

which is fifty thousand years." (Quran 70:4)

For the believers, however, this day will pass swiftly due to Allah’s mercy. The

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"The Day of Resurrection will be easy for the believer, like walking under a shade

 tree." (Al-Tabarani)

2. The Sun Will Come Extremely Close to the Earth

Before the Day of Judgment arrives, one of the major signs will be the sun rising

from the west. But on the Day itself, the sun will be brought near to the earth,

 causing unbearable heat.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"The sun will come so close to people that their sweat will reach halfway up their

 ears." (Bukhari & Muslim)

This extreme heat will cause people to drown in their own sweat based on their sins.

Some will be submerged up to their ankles, others to their knees, waists, or even

 mouths.

3. Every Person Will Testify Against Themselves

On the Day of Judgment, every individual’s own body parts—hands, feet, and skin—

will testify against them.

Allah says:

"On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against

them as to what they used to do." (Quran 24:24)

Even the earth will speak, declaring every deed that took place on its surface. There

will be no escape or denial, as Allah will resurrect all witnesses.

4. The Scales of Deeds Will Be Established

One of the most critical events on the Day of Judgment is the weighing of deeds.

Every action, big or small, will be placed on a scale.

Allah says:

"And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, so none will be

wronged in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring

 it." (Quran 21:47)

Good deeds will outweigh bad ones for the successful believers, while some people

will find their scales empty due to a lack of faith and righteous actions.

5. The Records of Deeds Will Be Distributed

Every person will receive a book containing their entire life’s deeds.

Allah says:

"Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will be judged with an

easy account and return to his people in happiness. But as for he who is given his

record behind his back, he will cry out for destruction and will enter a Blazing Fire."

 (Quran 84:7-12)

Some will receive their book in their right hand (a sign of success), others in their

left hand (a sign of failure), and some will receive it from behind their back

 (indicating severe punishment).

6. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Will Intercede for His Ummah

One of the most hopeful facts about the Day of Judgment is that the Prophet

Muhammad (peace be upon him) will be granted the honor of interceding

 (Shafa’ah) for his followers.

He said:

"I will be the leader of the prophets on the Day of Judgment, the first one to emerge

from the earth when they are resurrected, and the first to intercede and the first

whose intercession will be accepted." (Muslim)

His intercession will save countless believers from the horrors of that day, proving

 his immense status before Allah.

7. People Will Be Barefoot, Naked, and Uncircumcised

When people are resurrected, they will emerge from their graves in their most basic

 form.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"You will be gathered (on the Day of Judgment) barefoot, naked, and

 uncircumcised." (Bukhari & Muslim)

However, the first person to be clothed on that day will be the Prophet Ibrahim

 (Abraham), peace be upon him.

8. Some Will Wish They Were Dust

For the disbelievers and severe sinners, the Day of Judgment will be so terrifying

that they will wish they had never been created.

Allah says:

"And the criminal will wish he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day

by his children, his wife, his brother, his kindred who sheltered him, and all who are

on the earth—so that it could save him. Never! It will be the Flame of Hell, plucking

out [the evildoer] to the skull." (Quran 70:11-16)

Some will even beg for death, but it will be too late.

9. The Bridge Over Hell (Sirat) Must Be Crossed

One of the most intense trials on the Day of Judgment is crossing the Sirat, a razor-

sharp bridge stretched over Hellfire.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) described it:

"There is a bridge over Hell sharper than a sword and thinner than a hair." (Bukhari)

The believers will cross it based on their deeds—some in the blink of an eye, others

slowly, and some will fall into Hell.

10. The Final Decision: Paradise or Hellfire

After all trials, the ultimate fate of every soul will be decided.

Allah says:

"And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous… And Hellfire will be brought

forth for the deviators." (Quran 26:90-91)

The believers will enter Jannah (Paradise), a place of eternal bliss, while the

disbelievers and wicked will be thrown into Jahannam (Hellfire), a place of

 unimaginable suffering.

The Day of Judgment is a reality that every human must face. Its descriptions in the

Quran and Hadith serve as a warning and a motivation to live righteously. By

understanding these facts, we can better prepare ourselves for the inevitable

 meeting with our Creator.

May Allah grant us success on that terrifying yet hopeful day and make us among

 the people of Paradise. Ameen.
